On June 28, 2026, at an event in Brussels marking America's 250th birthday, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), which represents the Belgian city's diamond industry, presented U.S. Ambassador Bill White with a gold ring for Trump encrusted with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds and six rubies and engraved “Crafted in Antwerp for Donald John Trump,” the AP reported. Two independent jewelers told the AP they valued it at between $25,000 and $35,000. “A very special thank you to my friends from Antwerp for the magnificent Freedom 250 ring,” Trump said in a prerecorded video.
Weeks later, Europe's diamond industry was exempted from new U.S. tariffs, Reuters reported. The AWDC said, “The discussion about U.S. import tariffs was entirely separate from (the gifted ring),” and the White House said the exemption upheld a 2025 trade agreement with the European Union. An administration official said the ring is federal property, and that if the president wanted to keep it, he would have to pay the government market price for it.
On October 5, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal asked the White House, the General Services Administration and the National Archives where the ring is, noting that the White House had confirmed on July 2 that it had not yet been presented to Trump. “To date, we are not aware of any public reporting indicating the current location of the ring,” they wrote, asking for answers by October 19. No evidence of a link between the gift and the tariff decision has been reported.
