Trump has repeatedly claimed his COVID-19 response was 'amazing“ while public health data show more than 1 million U.S. deaths. In a 2020 recording released by Bob Woodward, Trump acknowledged that he wanted to 'play it down” even as the virus spread.
Update (October 2, 2026): On September 21, 2020, at an Ohio rally, Trump said of the coronavirus, “Below the age of 18, like nobody,” and, “But it affects virtually nobody. It's an amazing thing,” as U.S. deaths passed 200,000, CBS News reported. Correction: an earlier title on this entry quoted Trump as saying “Nobody Died”; no source for that quotation was found, and it was removed.
