US Embassy Officials Intimidate French Judge Over Marine Le Pen Trial

French magistrate Magali Lafourcade alerted French authorities in May 2025 after two Trump administration emissaries allegedly raised questions about far-right leader Marine Le Pen's trial. Lafourcade said conversation started on human rights but quickly shifted to Le Pen, describing it as effort to cast the case as politically motivated - 'to find, with me or others, elements indicating that this was a purely political trial to stop her running for president." Two months later, US sanctioned Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes who investigated Bolsonaro's attempted coup.

French judges in Le Pen case later faced death threats and required police protection.
