On October 26, 2026, Democrats on Congress's Joint Economic Committee, led by ranking member Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, reported that Trump's personal holdings in oil and gas stocks are worth between $22.5 million and $81.6 million, compared with $12.6 million to $46 million at the end of 2025. CBS News, which obtained the report exclusively, said it is built from his filings with the Office of Government Ethics. Filers report holdings and transactions in ranges, not exact amounts, so $81.6 million is the top of a range, not a measured value.
The stocks he holds have risen in value by an average of 43% since the end of 2025, the committee's Democrats said, citing LSEG data. From March, after the war with Iran began, through the end of August, the latest data available, the report counts purchases of $4.7 million to $17.5 million in oil and gas stocks and sales of $2 million to $5.4 million. Chevron and ExxonMobil are the largest positions, at up to $23.1 million and up to $18.4 million. The figures may be higher because he has not yet reported September and October transactions, the committee's Democrats said. In August the same Democrats had put the holdings at $17 million to $61 million.
Hassan said, “Trump's Iran War has forced Americans to pay much more at the pump while Big Oil rakes in profits and the president's own stock wealth in the oil and gas industry continues to balloon,” and that “his actions raise major concerns about conflicts of interest.” The committee's Democrats estimated that families have spent an average of $856 more on gas since the war began.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle said the portfolio is “independently managed by third-party financial institutions” and invested through computer models that replicate stock indexes, and that “All investment decisions are made entirely by independent managers. There are no conflicts of interest.” CBS noted that Trump said in a July 2026 CNBC interview that his son Eric also handles his finances. Presidents may own and trade stocks while in office, though insider trading laws apply, CBS reported.
The report came two days after Trump told a rally in Perry, Georgia, that the U.S. oil and gas business is “making hundreds of billions of dollars” (see Diesel Hits Record After Record During the Iran War. In August, CBS reported that his accounts sold $500,000 to $1 million of ExxonMobil stock on April 7, the day he announced a ceasefire in the war; the shares closed at $163.91 that day, before the evening announcement, and opened at $153.52 on April 8.
