CNN fact-checked 100 false claims in Trump's first 100 days of second term alone. Includes lies about bacon prices “quadrupling” (19-21%), grocery prices being “down” (actually up 2.7%), and mathematically impossible drug price cuts of “900%.”
Update (September 29, 2026): the grocery claim is still being made. On September 27, 2026, Trump told reporters, “The prices for groceries have come way down from Biden. Almost every price has come way down,” and later that day, “With the exception of oil, everything is going down,” CNN reported. The government's own figures say otherwise: the Bureau of Labor Statistics' seasonally adjusted index for food at home rose about 3.4 percent from January 2025 to August 2026, and prices overall rose about 4.8 percent. CNN noted that coffee was up 21.8 percent and beef and veal 16.5 percent, while eggs were down 31.1 percent.
