Trump Tells Hispanic Heritage Month Guests 'Only a Hispanic Could Survive' a Fall From His Ballroom Site

At the White House's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on September 30, 2026, the first of his second term, Trump invited guests to tour his ballroom construction site, which he described as “the greatest ballroom ever built” and “a tremendous military complex with a drone port on top.” Then he joked about the drop: “So be very careful. Don't fall over the edge, because it's a long way down,” he said. “And only a Hispanic could survive that fall.” The Hill reported the line drew cheers from attendees. He added: “So, I'm not overly worried.”

Transcriptions differ slightly; the Washington Post's version reads “only Hispanic could survive.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio took part in the event.
