Trump Pardoned a Convicted Fraudster Three Days After the Man Wrote a Check to a MAGA Congressman

On June 30, 2026, Republican megadonor Adam Kidan gave $2,600 to the leadership PAC of Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA). Three days later, on July 3, Trump pardoned him. NOTUS reported the sequence on July 29.

Kidan, 61, is not an ambiguous case. He served about two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, one of the defining corruption cases of the 2000s. He has given millions to Republican causes over the years, including roughly $270,000 to Trump-affiliated committees during the 2024 cycle, and has hosted fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago.

Mackenzie's campaign said the congressman, who met with Trump days before the pardon, played no role in it. But the optics are the point, and a Democratic opponent's campaign put it plainly: “Three days after a convicted fraudster cut Ryan Mackenzie a massive campaign check, that same fraudster walked away with a presidential pardon. That is corruption in plain sight.”

The clemency power has no external check, which is exactly why the timing matters. When a pardon follows a donation by three days, and the beneficiary is a longtime party financier, the mechanism stops looking like mercy and starts looking like a market (see Trump Becomes the First President to Pardon Corporations, Wiping Out About $200 Million in Penalties and Trump Pardons Wipe Nearly $2 Billion in Victim Restitution and Taxpayer Recovery, Leaving Fraud Victims With Nothing).
