Trump Storms Off Meet the Press After Kristen Welker Asks for Evidence of His Election-Fraud Claims, Calling Her 'Darling' on the Way Out

In an interview that aired June 7, 2026 on NBC's Meet the Press, President Trump abruptly walked out after the host, Kristen Welker, pressed him for evidence of his claim that California's elections were “rigged.” When Trump said, “All I have to do is look,” Welker noted that was not evidence. Trump erupted: “You're crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked, and so is ABC and CBS and CNN... Let's call it quits, because I've had enough.” He left with a gendered sign-off, telling Welker, “Thank you, darling. Have a good time.” The exchange fit a documented pattern of Trump belittling female journalists, including CNN's Kaitlan Collins and the New York Times's Katie Rogers.

Earlier in the same interview, Trump revived his push for the $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization fund” to pay people prosecuted under the Biden administration, including January 6 rioters: “If it was up to me, I'd pay them the kind of money that they deserve. People have been destroyed. Lives have been destroyed. Many suicides.” He said he would be “disappointed” if Congress did not fund it, even though a federal judge had halted the fund and his own acting attorney general, Todd Blanche, had told lawmakers it was “not moving forward,” with a court filing stating the administration “will not” revive it (see The DOJ Announces a $1.776 Billion 'Anti-Weaponization Fund' to Compensate Trump's Allies, Settling the President's $10 Billion Lawsuit Against the IRS He Controls).

Former Vice President Mike Pence rebuked the idea directly, saying the violent January 6 rioters Trump pardoned “should never get a dime.”
