The documented pipeline from bribe to Attorney General spans 12 years and follows a devastating sequence.
In August 2013, days after New York's AG sued Trump for fraud over Trump University, Bondi's campaign finance director solicited a donation from Trump's office. On September 13, Bondi's office publicly stated it was “reviewing” whether to join the lawsuit. Four days later, on September 17, the Trump Foundation sent a $25,000 check to Bondi's reelection PAC — an illegal donation, since charitable foundations are prohibited from making political contributions.
By mid-October, Bondi's office dropped the review entirely, claiming there was only “one complaint” against Trump University. Internal records show staff retroactively culled 22+ consumer complaints down to one to justify the decision. CREW filed criminal bribery complaints with the DOJ, IRS, Florida Inspector General, and Florida Ethics Commission.
The cover-up was clumsy. On its 2013 tax return, the Trump Foundation disguised the recipient — listing “Justice for All” (a Kansas nonprofit) instead of “And Justice for All” (Bondi's PAC). Trump paid a negligible $2,500 IRS penalty. A New York court later ordered the Trump Foundation dissolved and Trump to pay $2 million for misuse of charitable funds.
Then came the rewards. In March 2014, Trump hosted a below-market fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago for Bondi — charging her campaign roughly $5,000 for a venue that typically cost $140,000, effectively gifting her $150,000 in value. Bondi endorsed Trump for president in 2016, spoke at the RNC (responding to “Lock her up” chants with “I love that”), became his impeachment defense lawyer in 2019, chaired the legal arm of his think tank from 2021-2024, and was confirmed as the 87th Attorney General of the United States on February 4, 2025.
The woman who dropped a fraud investigation after receiving an illegal donation now runs the Department of Justice. As AG, she has: caught systematically removing Trump's name from Epstein file releases, proposed blocking ethics investigations of herself, installed Trump's personal lawyer as a US Attorney without Senate confirmation (ruled unlawful twice), and been subpoenaed by a bipartisan House Oversight vote (24-19) over her Epstein handling.
