On Saturday, December 3, 2022, less than three weeks after announcing his 2024 campaign, Trump posted on Truth Social that “A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.” The White House said attacks on the Constitution should be “universally condemned,” and Republicans including Sens. Lindsey Graham, John Cornyn, Shelley Moore Capito and Ted Cruz criticized the post.
On Monday, December 5, Trump denied having said it. “The Fake News is actually trying to convince the American People that I said I wanted to 'terminate' the Constitution. This is simply more DISINFORMATION & LIES, just like RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA, and all of their other HOAXES & SCAMS,” he wrote. He said he had meant that when there is “MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION,” steps must be taken to “RIGHT THE WRONG.”
Snopes rated the attribution of the original quote to Trump “Correct Attribution.” His claims that the 2020 election was stolen have been widely refuted.
Correction (October 14, 2026): This entry was previously dated December 5, 2023 and filed under the 2024 campaign, and it said Trump “repeatedly” denied the post when “pressed by campaign reporters.” The documented denial is a single Truth Social post on December 5, 2022, so the date and period have been corrected and the claim of repeated denials to reporters removed. A claim that the post “remains documented on Truth Social with screenshots” was also removed because we could not verify it, and dead links were replaced.
