On April 4, 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked the green cards of Hamideh Soleimani Afshar — niece of slain IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani — and her daughter, both living in Los Angeles. ICE arrested them. Rubio accused Afshar of “promoting Iranian regime propaganda” and supporting the IRGC.
Afshar entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2015, was granted asylum in 2019, and became a permanent resident in 2021. She had lived in the U.S. legally for over a decade. DHS cited trips back to Iran as evidence her asylum claim was fraudulent.
The administration also revoked the status of the daughter of former Iranian security official Ali Larijani. This is part of broader wartime visa purges targeting Iranian nationals — revoking legal status based on family connections to foreign officials, not individual wrongdoing.
The question: should legal permanent residents lose their status because of who their relatives are?
