From 10:14 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 11, 2026, until 1:12 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, Trump posted 55 times on Truth Social, according to a timeline compiled by Snopes; The New Republic, which called it a crashout, counted more than 55. Much of the content targeted Barack Obama. Trump reposted a screenshot calling for the arrest of “Obama the traitor,” shared claims that Obama worked with the CIA in 2016 to overthrow him, and shared posts accusing Obama of “the most heinous crimes committed in American history,” including wiretapping Trump Tower.
Several of the claims were false. CNN reported that a post saying Obama made $120 million from Obamacare carried an invented quote attributed to Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) that originated with a satire publisher; Kennedy said, “I didn't say that.” CNN also noted there is no evidence anyone wiretapped Trump Tower in 2016, and that the Justice Department said in a 2017 court filing it had no records supporting the claim.
Around 10:40 p.m., Trump interrupted the political posts to share three videos of Black people. One claimed to show young Black people stealing from a convenience store; a reposted screenshot read, “This is why the convenience store chain 'Wawa' is closing stores one after another.” Another purported to show a Black DoorDash worker eating a customer's order, reposted with a screenshot reading “Always scheming.” A third showed a Black man knocking over a waiter's tray, reposted with a screenshot that began “I wouldn't call him a man” and ended “I'll call him what he is, a POS!” Snopes's timeline describes these captions as reposted screenshots rather than text Trump wrote himself.
It was not the first time. In February 2026 Trump shared a video that ended with the Obamas' heads superimposed on the bodies of apes; it was taken down after public backlash.
The Wall Street Journal reported, as relayed by The New Republic, that Trump's 34-year-old executive assistant Natalie Harp is behind his overnight Truth Social sprees: she supplies him with printed drafts and posts after he approves them. Harp does not share her drafts with anyone in the White House but the president, which has caused tension with the chief of staff's office. Posts she worked on included the Obamas-as-apes video and an AI-generated image of Trump as Jesus Christ, both later taken down. White House communications director Steven Cheung said: “Truth Social has never been hotter, and it's because President Trump offers his unfiltered and direct thoughts to the American people, without the biased media taking him out of context.”
Correction (October 2, 2026): an earlier version of this entry dated the spree to Monday night, May 12, into May 13, and to “Mother's Day-into-Monday-night”; the posts ran from 10:14 p.m. Monday, May 11, to 1:12 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, and the date field has been corrected. It also said Trump wrote the captions “Always scheming” and “POS”; per Snopes's timeline, he reposted screenshots containing that text, and the entry now says so. We removed unsourced claims that the “POS” post remains live and that the spree came amid a pattern of public health or cognitive incidents.
