On February 19, 2026, work crews using cherry pickers installed a giant “Make America Safe Again” banner featuring Donald Trump's portrait on the exterior of the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building — the headquarters of the federal agency that is supposed to operate independently from the White House.
After the Watergate scandal, the Department of Justice instituted safeguards specifically designed to ensure the DOJ remained a “neutral zone” free from presidential politics, requiring its attorneys to “be committed to good judgment and integrity.” Hanging a portrait of the president on the building is a symbolic demolition of that principle — and given that Trump's DOJ is actively hiding Epstein documents, targeting political opponents, and surveilling what members of Congress search in child sex trafficking files, it's more than symbolic.
Former Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock: “Nothing says Justice is Blind like hanging a Dear Leader Banner at DOJ.” The Atlantic's David Frum called Trump's DOJ “a pure creature of presidential whim, retribution, and cover-up — so this banner has the virtue of candor.” The Hill's Niall Stanage noted the contrast: “In Britain today, they arrested a former prince. In the U.S. today, they hung a Trump banner on the Department of Justice.”
The DOJ isn't the only building. According to a report from Senator Adam Schiff's office, Trump administration banners have also appeared on the Departments of Agriculture and Labor, plus 88-foot signs at Health and Human Services promoting RFK Jr.'s “Make America Healthy Again” slogan. Total taxpayer cost exceeded $50,000. The man is plastering his face on government buildings with taxpayer money — and starting with the one agency that's supposed to be blind to who the president is.
Update (September 25, 2026): the department's answer. A Justice Department spokesperson told CNN: “We are proud at this Department of Justice to celebrate 250 years of our great country and our historic work to make America safe again at President Trump's direction.”
