On April 22, 2026, Trump attacked the Supreme Court in a Truth Social post ahead of its expected birthright citizenship ruling. Of the three justices appointed by Democratic presidents, he wrote: “They ALWAYS vote as a group, or BLOCK, even that new, Low IQ person, that somehow found her way to the bench (Sleepy Joe!).” He did not name her, but the reference to the newest Biden appointee pointed to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first and only Black woman on the Court. Jackson holds degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School and clerked for Justice Stephen Breyer.
In the same post he said the Democratic appointees “stick together like glue” in service of “warped and perverse” policies, and turned on the Court's conservatives: “The Republican Justices don't stick together, they give the Democrats win after win,” citing the 6-3 ruling that struck down his emergency tariffs. “Certain 'Republican' Justices have just gone weak, stupid, and bad,” he wrote.
The day before, Trump had called House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries a “Low IQ person” in a post about the Iran war. Jeffries replied on MS NOW: “What's so ironic is that Donald Trump is clearly the dumbest person ever to sit at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
The Independent reported that while Trump has used the insult against critics of all races, including Tucker Carlson and Robert De Niro, he has used it most often against Black people, and most often Black women. Earlier targets include Rep. Maxine Waters (“an extraordinary low IQ person”), Kamala Harris (“extremely low IQ person”) and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (“definitely a low-IQ person”). Asked why Trump singled out Jackson, a White House spokesperson said he “never hesitates to share his thoughts with the American people.” A president publicly deriding a sitting justice as “low IQ” while cases on his own policies are pending before the Court adds to the pressure on the judiciary.
Correction (October 2, 2026): The entry said Trump called Jeffries “a totally Low IQ person”; his post said “Low IQ person Hakeem Jeffries.” It said Trump called his own appointees “weak, stupid, and bad”; he aimed that at “certain 'Republican' Justices” without naming them. The title said he uses the insult “disproportionately” against Black women, a statistical claim no source measured; that finding is now attributed in the summary to The Independent, which reported that he has used it most often against Black women.
