Trump's PAC Has Spent $60M+ in Donor Money on His Legal Fees and Is Now Nominating Lawyers It Owes Money to for Lifetime Judgeships

FEC filings reveal Trump's Save America PAC has spent over $60 million on his personal legal fees since 2020 — funded entirely by small-dollar donor contributions. The PAC is now drowning in debt: $1.19 million cash on hand against $1.6 million owed to law firms.

In Q1 2026 alone, Save America spent $2.3 million on legal consulting and worked with 20 different law firms, owing money to 12 of them. The Make America Great Again PAC has just $28,087 left with $763,000 in debt.

The most concerning pattern: Trump is nominating lawyers from firms his PAC owes money to for lifetime federal judgeships. Sullivan & Cromwell, owed approximately $400,000 by the PAC, had one of its lawyers nominated to a lifelong appeals court seat. James Otis Law Group, owed roughly $1,700, had its lawyer nominated to a federal judicial post. This creates a direct pipeline: donors give to PAC, PAC pays lawyers, Trump appoints those lawyers as judges.

The largest single creditor is NechelesLaw LLP at $660,000+ — the firm that cross-examined Stormy Daniels. Two creditors are London-based law firms.

The Campaign Legal Center has filed an FEC complaint alleging some payments violated federal law. Fox News confirmed the PAC spent nearly $3 million on legal expenses in January alone.
