At a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on October 14, 2026, Trump said of transgender care, “Your son leaves as Jimmy and comes back home in three days as Janet, and they don't even ask you,” and, “They can take your child out of school and do whatever the hell they want. These people are sick. Minnesota is one of those states that can do that,” according to the Roll Call Factbase transcript.
Minnesota's 2023 law does not do that. It bars state cooperation with other states' subpoenas and removal orders tied to gender-affirming care and gives Minnesota courts temporary emergency jurisdiction when a child in the state “has been unable to obtain gender-affirming health care.” It says nothing about schools. Some headlines said Trump accused the state of “kidnapping” children; he did not use that word.
Update (October 20, 2026): Trump has repeated the claim at other rallies. In Dalton, Georgia, on October 16 he said, “we have five states where your child goes off to school as Tim and comes back as Tammy three or four days later,” according to the Roll Call Factbase transcript. CNN's fact check found that the White House “couldn't provide one example proving Trump's claim.”
