During an Oval Office event on October 20, 2026, as Andrew Feinberg of The Independent began a question, “President Trump, you own a lot of golf courses,” Trump cut him off: “Wait, wait. Quiet. Quiet. What's wrong with you? Are you a sick person?” according to the Roll Call Factbase transcript. Earlier in the same event Trump told a reporter, “I don't know who the hell you are, but you'd better be careful.” Vice President JD Vance shared a clip and called the journalist an “imbecile,” Newsweek reported, and a White House account criticized Feinberg in a post using what Newsweek called “a widely condemned slur.” Feinberg wrote, “Mr. Vice President, if you're going to insult me at least have the guts to tag my account.” See also The White House Tells CNN's Kristen Holmes Her Children Will Be 'Sickened and Embarrassed' by Her, After She Asked Trump a Question He Disliked.
Update (October 22, 2026): on the evening of October 21 the press office told Feinberg he would “not be the print pooler on tomorrow's trip,” removing him from the rotation for the president's October 22 travel without giving a reason, The Independent reported. White House Correspondents' Association president Jacqui Heinrich said, “That is retaliation.” A White House statement to the Daily Beast said, “No person and no journalist has a constitutional right to access the President's Oval Office, Air Force One, or other sensitive and private facilities.” Several outlets also reported that the White House Rapid Response account used a slur for a person with Down syndrome about Feinberg. The severity is raised from concerning to moderate because the removal is an official act against a reporter, not rhetoric.
