On April 15, 2026 — just three days after deleting an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ following backlash from his own base — Trump posted a second Jesus image on Truth Social. This time it depicted Jesus embracing Trump, both with eyes closed, leaning against each other with a halo of light and an American flag backdrop.
Trump's caption was defiant: “The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!!! President DJT.” He blamed the backlash on the left rather than acknowledging it came overwhelmingly from his own Christian conservative supporters — including MTG, who called the first image “an Antichrist spirit.”
The image came from an “Irish for Trump” X account whose original caption included QAnon-adjacent language: “I was never a religious man. But doesn't it seem, with all these satanic, demonic, child sacrificing monsters being exposed... that God might be playing his Trump card!”
The arc over four days tells a story of escalation, not contrition. On April 12, Trump posted an AI image of himself AS Jesus — white robes, glowing healing hands — hours after attacking Pope Leo XIV. His own base revolted. On April 13, he deleted it and offered an absurd excuse: “I thought it was me as a doctor” related to the Red Cross. Then on April 15, he posted the second image with a combative caption, blaming critics as “Radical Left Lunatics” despite the criticism coming from MTG, Riley Gaines, and Christian conservatives.
Bernie Sanders called it “deranged” and reflective of “egomaniacal behavior.” Snopes confirmed Trump did post and delete the first image. The second posting signals Trump has no intention of backing down from the divine-association imagery — even as it costs him support among Christian conservatives who were his most loyal constituency.
